Summary

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a gothic novella that explores the dual nature of human personality—good and evil. Dr. Henry Jekyll, a respected scientist, believes that every person has both moral and immoral sides. To separate these two aspects, he creates a chemical potion that transforms him into Edward Hyde, a cruel and violent man who represents his evil nature. While Dr. Jekyll enjoys freedom as Hyde at first, he gradually loses control over the transformations. Hyde’s crimes increase, leading to fear and suspicion. Eventually, Jekyll realizes that he cannot escape the consequences of his actions. Unable to control Hyde any longer, he takes his own life. The novel highlights themes of duality, repression, moral responsibility, and the dangers of unchecked scientific ambition.
